Heluna Spam and Virus Filtering
Antispam and Antivirus Service
Heluna offers the best spam reduction service available, and iRapture.com has partnered with Heluna to be able to provide the Heluna spam filtering quickly and effectively.
The Heluna service offers a collection of features to keep unwanted e-mail from reaching your domain. Each e-mail sent to you goes through the Heluna system, running through a sequence of filters. These filters eliminate or quarantine unsolicited spam messages, remove messages with viruses embedded in them, and also get rid of forged "phishing" attempts at stealing your identity.
Heluna consistently achieves better than 99% effectiveness at blocking unwanted spam through Heluna's myriad of antispam measures. Clients report that upon turning on the Heluna service for their domain, the amount of spam that they receive drops to near zero. The Heluna spam filters are constantly learning about new spam messages, and about new ways that spammers are attempting to get to your inbox.
The Spam Filtering Process
To generate an e-mail's test rating, each e-mail bound for your domain spends one or two seconds going through an enormous amount of tests on the Heluna servers. These tests determine the message's test rating, which when combined with the recipient's sensitivity, mark the message as clean, possibly spam, or definitely spam. The types of tests that messages go through include:
- Valid Recipient - Is this message destined for an existing mailbox?
- Network Address Blocked Lists - Is this message coming from well-known spammers?
- Distributed Message Checksums - Has this message been sent to millions of people?
- Spam Fingerprinting - Does this message include signs of spam software?
- URL Blocked Lists - Does this message include links to well-known spam sites?
- Content Filtering - Is there text in this message that looks like spam?
- Spam OCR - Are there images that contain spam keywords in this message?
- Bayesian Filtering - Does this message look like spam messages we have seen in the past?
- Custom Approved / Blocked Lists - Is the sender of this message always (or never) allowed to send the recipient e-mail?
...amongst many more that are constantly being upgraded and retested by Heluna.
Antivirus
In addition to scanning your incoming e-mail for spam, Heluna also protects your domain from e-mail-borne viruses. Each incoming e-mail is scanned against a huge database of virus signatures-- if the message matches a signature, a virus is present and that e-mail is silently discarded. The Heluna antivirus software is configured and updated automatically without any intervention by you. It is turned on for every mailbox in your domain as soon as your setup is complete.
Updates of the Heluna antivirus database happen hourly, to ensure that brand new e-mail viruses get stopped before they spread to your domain. On average, Heluna has seen that viruses that make the news (and those that don't) get detected and caught within the first few minutes that they're on the Internet. Even though overall e-mail virus activity online may be decreasing, vigilance is still necessary to keep your organization free from harmful attacks.
Heluna only scans pieces of the message that could be harmful to your machine: attachments, scripting, etc., so only virus-laden messages will be rejected. Clean messages, or attachments with no viruses in them, will pass through the antivirus filters untouched (on average in less than one second). Rather than spending countless time picking up the pieces of your organization's desktops after an attack, enjoy some peace of mind after signing up with Heluna.

Heluna Pricing Matrix
Q: How long does it take for an e-mail to go through the Heluna service?
A: Most e-mails take less than 4 seconds from the time they're delivered to Heluna to the time at which they're delivered to your mailserver hosted with iRapture.com. Some resource-intensive e-mails (for example, extremely large messages) can take a few seconds longer.
Q: How many mailboxes am I allowed to have?
A: Unlimited. Heluna covers every single mailbox in your domain on day one. Whether you have one catch-all mailbox or one thousand users in your domain, Heluna will filter messages for all of them.
Q: Do I need to set up individual users inside the Heluna system?
A: No, in fact we recommend that you only set up individual accounts for those users who you wish to have tight control over their own settings. For most of your users, the default settings will work extremely well.
Q: Do you offer an e-mail quarantine?
A: Yes we do, for users who have an account inside the Heluna system. We recommend that the quarantine only be turned on if absolutely necessary, since it acts as simply another repository to check your e-mail, which defeats the purpose of blocking spam. Most of our clients have their quarantines turned on for a month or two and then realize that their time is better spent by having it turned off.
Q: What are the different levels of service?
A: The only difference between the Heluna Basic level of service, the Heluna Standard level of service, and the Heluna Pro level of service is the number of "clean" (non-spam, non-virus) e-mails that your domain receives per month. All of the features of the system are available to all of our clients.
Q: Which level of service should I sign up for?
A: If you are not aware of how many clean messages your domain gets every month, a good guide to go by is that each individual user who gets 33 clean e-mails per day will get 1000 clean messages per month. Based upon that, small domains with only one or two users should sign up for the Heluna Basic service, while businesses with approximately 20 users should sign up for the Heluna Standard service. If you have more than 20 users, consider the Heluna Pro service. If you believe you get more than 25,000 clean messages per month, just contact us (info@irapture.com / 1.877.488.7999) and we'll be happy to work out a plan for you.
